This is my second journey into Markmaking. I had just graduated from college and was challenged by my mentor with a simple question, "What's next?” I wasn't sure. I loved how the first Markmaking series turned out and wanted to see if I could do something similar in Phoenix. I had been living there for seven years and there was a lot of interesting spaces filled with all sorts of lines and marks. Part of my job afforded me the ability to see every part of Metro-Phoenix. The sun and the heat became my subject.
What resulted from my experiment was this series. This time around, I tried even harder to connect the internal lines through juxtaposition. I also wanted to address the negative space around the composites. White space is necessary. It is a resting place. It is brightness and life. It holds weight and balances the compositions. It is like the sun.
